Wednesday of the 6th Week of Easter
In today's first reading from Acts 17:15, 22-18:1 St. Paul gives his famous speech in Athens calling the people to abandon their worship of false gods and worship the One True God - JESUS. This speech took place at Mars Hill just below the Parthenon. Deacon Bernie Slate and I climbed this hill together in 2018. We could not have done it without each other. The hill is very rocky and the rocks are also very smooth from pilgrims scaling it for thousands of years. We had to push and pull each other until we finally made it to the top. Then we had to help each other down the hill. Discipleship is like that. Discipleship is not a one man show. We need each other to push and pull each other until we achieve our goal which is to make Jesus known in our world. Even St. Paul had companions like Titus, Timothy, Silas, Luke and Barnabas who helped him in his ministry of making Jesus known!
